Radiation Oncology
Radiation therapy is one of the most effective weapons against cancer. It can be given as part of an initial treatment plan or as a means to lessen or control symptoms, such as cancer-related pain. In partnership with Southeastern Radiation Oncology (SERO), CaroMont Cancer Center uses a variety of approaches in the treatment of cancer, including external beam radiation therapy, brachytherapy, and prostate seed implant therapy.
The treatment planning and delivery process is highly-technical and utilizes advanced care options such as CT Simulation, 3D Treatment planning, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) to closely target tumors and minimize exposure to healthy tissue and cells.
